Born from lived experience. Built to protect the futures of students who are doing everything right.
GPS Event Foundation was born from a simple truth its founders know firsthand. Founded by Celeste Scott, GPS is deeply personal. Celeste immigrated from Antigua to Connecticut as a child in 1979 and went on to earn her B.A. from Simmons College, an achievement made possible because someone believed in her potential and stepped in when financial gaps threatened her path.
She understands how fragile a student's trajectory can be when unexpected costs arise. She built GPS to be the safety net students need now to provide for students in Lawrence and the Merrimack Valley.
After decades of watching students fall through the cracks while the need for rapid-response support only grew, the time to act is now. GPS Event Foundation exists today because the founders have spent a lifetime preparing for this moment and students in Lawrence and the Merrimack Valley cannot wait another semester for someone to show up.
Two lives shaped by community, education, and service.
Celeste brings decades of experience in human resources, training development, and nonprofit fundraising. She currently serves as a Training, Learning and Development Specialist at Tufts University and as emeritus Executive Vice President of The Junior League of Boston. Her journey from Antigua to Simmons College is the living proof that the right support at the right moment changes everything.
GPS is also a living tribute to the driving forces behind Celeste's journey: her mother Gilbeean Scott and father John Scott. Their unwavering support, behind-the-scenes leadership, and belief in the power of education shaped the very foundation of this work.
Gilbeean and John demonstrated that family isn't just who cheers from the sidelines. It's who coordinates the moving pieces, holds the vision, and ensures no one gets left behind. Their legacy of service and quiet strength runs through every grant GPS makes.
